Student athletes interested in basketball and wrestling can enroll in summer sports camps to sharpen their playing skills.
Basketball: A free one-day basketball clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at Walther Christian Academy, 900 Chicago Ave., Melrose Park. This basketball clinic will be a unique mixture of exercises, activities, and drills that will cultivate youth basketball skills. Coaches will focus on the four key elements of basketball — dribbling, shooting, passing, and defense. The clinic is being sponsored by Walther Christian Academy, Knocks Basketball, and Taylored Intensity.
Registration is open to both boys and girls, ages 8-14. There will be three separate sessions lasting one and a half hours. Each participant will receive an athletic care bag filled with equipment and workouts to practice effectively at home.
Donations for the basketball clinic are accepted but not required. Interested students and parents can register at this link.
Wrestling: A Beat the Streets Chicago summer wrestling camp is open for both boys and girls ages 5-14 and for high school students. No wrestling experience is necessary. Camps will be held at the Beat the Streets Chicago Facility at 5985 S. Archer Ave., Chicago.
Applications are now open for youth ages 5-14 and high school students. Younger students can register for a one-week, half-day summer camp, and students can register for multiple sessions. The camps will be held each week, Monday-Friday, June 28 to Aug. 6. There will be both morning and afternoon sessions. There is no session the week of July 5-9.
High schoolers can register for a more intense, week-long wrestling camp from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, July 5-9. College wrestlers and wrestling coaches will be on hand to teach.
The cost for a one-week youth camp session is $95, with a $50 charge for an additional session. The one-week high school camp is $150. Interested students can register at this link. Scholarships are available; those interested in applying for scholarships can email Coach Mike Dixon.
