Some students are extending their mathematics distance learning through the summer with the staff of Mathnasium in Oak Park.
Twenty-five Cluster students will work with Mathnasium staff on Sunday afternoons for eight weeks through the ConexED site, which allows appointment scheduling and video meetings. It can also serve as a student kiosk and reporting system. Tutoring sessions will run up to an hour.
The individual tutoring sessions will start Sunday, July 5, and run for eight weeks. After an online assessment, students will be placed in one of the following content areas based upon the assessment results:
- Basic Numerical Fluency: Adding and subtracting without finger counting.
- Multiplication Mastery: A focused approach to learning the multiplication tables.
- Intro to Algebra: Understanding positive and negative numbers and solving basic equations.
Cluster students who aren’t part of the Mathnasium program still have a chance to practice math by doing distance learning with their own Cluster tutors. Students and tutors are encouraged to stay in touch over the summer via Skype, FaceTime, Google Meets, or just by calling and texting each other.
Mathnasium runs math learning programs throughout the year for students in pre-K through 12th grade. You can learn more at its website.
