We couldn’t offer reading instruction in person this summer, but Cluster reading teachers helped 18 students with intensive reading training in July and August.
The program had four professional teachers who gave 18 students five weeks of instruction. Students would meet online with a teacher one day via Zoom or Google Meet. On a second day, they would meet with a volunteer or program aide.
A brief assessment using Words Their Way was done before the sessions started. That way, teachers were able to formulate lesson plans based on students’ needs. All the students chosen for the program were those who needed the most help with reading skills, based on last year’s reading assessments.
The teachers were both reading specialists and veteran teachers. Due to the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, all student fees were waived.
