Learning is important, but health is just as important. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cluster Tutoring Board of Directors has decided to cancel all of the remaining tutoring sessions for the remainder of the school year.
We encourage tutors and students’ families to stay in touch during this time. Perhaps tutors and students can do a weekly check-in. You can use a technical platform such as FaceTime, Skype, or Google Hangout, or just make a regular phone call or send a text. Tutors also can mail a note to students. If you need a student’s address, email Executive Director Kara Kalnitz at [email protected].
Tutors and students might exchange ideas on a book or article they could read together and discuss once a week. Many students are participating in e-learning programs; tutors could offer help if students have questions. Students could create something for the Tutoring Times, Cluster’s online student newsletter. Any student creating artwork or writing a poem or story can email Kara.
Students’ families looking for more online activities for students can find many in another post on the Cluster website, including virtual field trips to zoos and museums, free lessons from Scholastic and Khan Academy, and much, much more.
At this point, Cluster plans to reopen in the fall at both locations on Tuesday and Thursday nights, and tutors and students’ families will receive the 2020-21 schedule sometime soon.
In the meantime, stay home, stay safe, and keep washing your hands.
