Virtual workshop ties anti-blackness and immigration

An upcoming online workshop on Oct. 7 will demonstrate the links between the global backlash against immigrants and the practices of slavery and colonization.

Benji Hart, a Chicago-based author, educator, and artist, will describe how the deportation machines in places like Israel, Mexico, and the United States share a lineage with the same systems that once captured and forced Africans into servitude. Participants will understand how histories of Black repression are at the heart of all anti-immigrant policy, and the need for communities to fight for Black liberation and immigrant justice as linked battles.

The virtual workshop will 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, and will be presented by Pilgrim Congregational Church in Oak Park. Attendance at the workshop is free, but advance registration is required. You can register for the workshop at this link.
